ARTIST’S STATEMENT | BIO

ARTIST STATEMENT

I was drawn to the limitless landscape of creative stimulation. The land that I left and the land I now reside consists of many horizons, undulating lines and explosions of color. These recollections permeate throughout my senses and allow themselves to become the art images that were created. Each one of these images was created out of an inner belief that line, color and texture can co-exist on the same flat plane producing patterns that seem to evolve into each other and resonate.

Color dictates the substance and backdrop of each composition. Translucency and layers evoke the mystery that lies beneath the surface.

BIOGRAPHY

The journey to realizing my greatest desire to become a full time artist has not followed a straight path.  A degree in art history from California State University Los Angeles led to a second degree in nursing. Though nursing became my day job, I never stopped nurturing my inner artist with classes in oil painting, mixed media and interior design.

Creating art and teaching art is what I always wanted to do.  I became a docent at both the Phoenix Heard Museum and the Phoenix Art Museum.  I continued to study oil painting at the Scottsdale Art School and Botanical Illustration at the Phoenix Botanical Garden.

Upon my return to California, I became a docent at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and given the privilege of time, I am now a full time artist.  I furthered my art and printmaking studies at the SBCC ‘s CLL.  Under the guidance of my mentor, R. Anthony (Tony) Askew, Professor Emeritus of Art at Westmont College, my art career became a reality.  In 2014 I studied “Traditional Etching Techniques” at Crown Point Press in San Francisco and further developed my printmaking techniques with Master Printmaker Michael McCabe in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I participated in workshops with Susan Tibbles, Lennox Dunbar, Professor Emeritus of Aberdeen University in Scotland, and Master Printmaker Ron Pokrasso of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

I have been juried into several shows and have collectors as far reaching as Germany, China, and Switzerland.
